Now that Burton has had some great seasons the last few years it's time for them to ditch some of the non-LPD teams they have played and go for tougher teams. They need to go back to Gate City. I mean, they have actually beaten Gate City in the last 5 years. They did it twice, even though the 06 Gate City team was downright awful. In 08 they did it again and Gate City was a decent team. It'd help to play teams like Lebanon as well.
Abingdon, though they are AA, is not really helpful to Burton.
Right now might be the time for PV to kind of soften up their schedule. Being prepared for the playoffs is good but the thing is when they have gone in there has been no confidence and it's like making the playoffs hasn't even been worth getting your butt kicked.
There was only one year in the 90s where PV missed the playoffs and it was 91, the last time they missed. But when they went, they either won state or went far. Only twice they made the playoffs and didn't win the region D. They lost to Haysi in Region D D2 finals in 1993 and Clintwood in first round in 1999.
In the beginning decade of the 21st century, they lucked out a few times and made it but lost the first round. In 2000 they went as 2nd seed and lost 2nd round to a loaded Honaker team. In 2001 they lost the Region D finals to Gate City in a hard fought game. In 2002 an interception against Appy kept them in and they lost to Honaker first round in a game that could have and probably should have gone the other way. Then in 03, they barely got in with an 8-2 record and could not beat a loaded Gate City team. In 2004 they went to state and lost in the end after a hard fought second half. In 2005, Haysi got them with a last second field goal. In 2006, ran into a brick wall against Giles in half state. In 2007, lost a hard fought game against Gate City. In 2008, bleh. They were fortunate to make it over Virginia High in 2009. If Virginia High had beaten GC then PV would have likely been sitting at home.
I hope not. I am hoping Gate City picks up more out of state teams instead.

Back to the actual topic here, PV- They went to a 7/7 at Union College in Barbourville KY on Thursday this past week. They lost all three games in pool play (Harlan County, Rowan County and Knox Central). They were playing Lynn Camp in the non-championship flight of the bracket when the championship flight ended. I am not sure how it turned out. Harlan County won the overall title. PV has some nice looking kids, but it just seemed like they were drawing stuff up in the dirt and not running their actual offense or defense. HC ran their regular stuff all day long. I just think it is a waste of time to do this if it is not pertinent to your offense/defense. They may actually run 5 wide occasionally but the #3 guy on the trips side will not line up beside the center. It just made no sense what PV was doing at times.

On another board, there is talk about some of P.V.'s projected starters not coming out to play this year. Any truth to this? PVfan, if you know or hear anything, let us know. That could throw a "monkey wrench" into some people's predicitons. Don't want names, just want to know if the rumor has any truth in it.
